WEBER IDF Carburettors
High Performance induction
Weber IDF are vertical/downdraught, twin bore, carburettors and where
introduced around 1965 as original equipment on Fiat 124 twincam
engines.
IDF stands for ‘Invertire doppio’ – meaning Inverted + double – and
possibly FIAT or Ferrari for the remaining ‘F’
WEBER IDF carburettors were originaly made in Bologna, Italy from 1965 until 1992
when production moved to Madrid, Spain where they are still being
produced today.
They have also been fitted to Fiat, Lamborghini, Porsche and more..
They have been produced in the following sizes:
IDF 36
IDF 38 (sandcast)
IDF 40
IDF 44
IDF 48
Today they are used extensively on Classic, flat-four, aircooled VW
Beetles & Vw Campervans, Porsche, Ford Escort RS2000, Fiat twincam
engines and more..
They are usually mounted as a pair, side by side, or oppossed as in the
vw flat four engine.
Each IDF carburettor barrel can be individually tuned to supply the
specific needs of a given cylinder.
They are beautifully designed yet simple, reliable, infinately tunable
and adaptable.
They look great, sound great and they’re a great investment as they
hardly loose their value.
A suitable inlet manifold is required to adapt an engine to run on IDF Carburettors.
A fuel Pump is essential. This can be a mechanical or electric type.
Trumpets should be fitted and the longest ones that can be fitted, the
better the airflow will be.
Air filters are essential – Many different types are available.
A suitable throttle linkage is required.
A fuel pressure regulator might be required
