You should select a fuel filter based on your vehicle’s make, model, and engine setup. Your vehicle manual is a good place to start from. We stock inline filters (These fit between 2 lengths of fuel hose), filter king with fuel bowl and replacement fuel filter element, and carburettor model-specific filters (These are integral to the carburettor model and sometimes come in the carburettor service kit - and are very specific).
We also offer fuel pump filters , which help protect the pump from contaminated fuel tanks.
We stock inline filters in both glass, plastic and aluminium housings to ensure the best fit and filtration efficiency for your application.
A fuel pressure regulator controls the pressure of fuel coming from the fuel pump. This is then delivered to your carburettor(s) or injectors. Carburettors generally require low pressure, ranging from 1psi up to approximately 7psi. The pump you have, might exceed your specific carburettor’s fuel pressure requirement. For example, weber carburettors typically want around 2.5psi fuel pressure. It is unlikely you will find a fuel pump that will deliver 2.5 psi, so what you do is: You select a fuel pump that has a delivery rate higher than 2.5psi - say about 6psi - and then you use your fuel pressure regulator to reduce the pressure down to 2.5 before feeding your webers with it. Essentially you are making sure that there is adequate fuel available to you by using a larger than needed pump, and then you control how much pressure flows to your carburettors. Dial it down to 2.5psi and you’re good to go.
Some regulators (Filter king by Malpassi) have gauges which indicate fuel pressure in psi or bar. This will help you adjust to your needs. A simple spanner and flathead screwdriver is what you need to adjust fuel pressure on one of these regulators.
If you feed a weber carb way over 2.5psi, say 4-6psi then you are likely to experience flooding, where fuel spills over uncontrollably into the engine or over the carburettor and onto engine, then bodywork and ground etc.. which is a fire hazard, at the best of times!
So, make an effort to test the fuel pressure from your new pump, and if necessary adjust it to suit your carburettor’s needs.
